Donating Time and Money in America

A non profit is an entity that allows for both donations in time and money. It has the advantage that monetary donations can be written off on taxes but the government is not the arbiter of donations. A donation is giving to someone in need or raising an issue that benefits others. It is doing something not for your benefit but the benefit of others. Helping your neighbor bring in the trash cans is a donation of time. Making dinner for a family of a newborn is both a donation of time and money. Volunteering at the local food bank or giving to One More Wave all fall under a donation. Donations fall in many spectrums whether it is spending time with someone lonely or giving your church $10,000.
