Welcome to America Month! In this inaugural post we will dive into America Month.
What is it? At it’s core, America Month is the celebration of America! Celebrating all the wonderful aspects of America! Celebrating God’s blessings on America! Celebrating God! Celebrating our God given rights! Celebrating the freedom America brings! Celebrating the trials we have gone through! Celebrating the men and women who have fought and died for our country! Celebrating the men and women who have served our country! Celebrating the hope that America brings to people across the world! Celebrating the people who make up America! Celebrating the ingenuity of America! Celebrating our beautiful landscapes! Celebrating the Declaration of Independence! Celebrating our Founding Fathers! Celebrating our Independence from Great Britain! Celebrating the establishment of this great country! Celebrating our states! Celebrating the uniqueness of each state! Celebrating our own states! Celebrating our individualism! Celebrating E Pluribus Unum! Celebrating the right to pursue happiness! Celebrating the ability to succeed! Celebrating the ability to fail! Celebrating life! Celebrating liberty! Celebrating justice! Celebrating freedom of speech! Celebrating freedom of religion! Celebrating our right to defend ourselves! Celebrating state rights! Celebrating limited government! Celebrating charity! Celebrating community! Celebrating our neighbors! Celebrating being there for our fellow citizens! Celebrating independence from the government! Celebrating all aspects of America!
There are more things missed in here than can be counted. And to each and every American they will have their own to celebrate! Every person around the world will have their own to celebrate! There will also be those that believe their is nothing to celebrate. They could not be farther from the truth. Are there issues and problems with America? Yes. Will they all be fixed? Highly unlikely. Will most? Yes. Have most? Yes. They dismiss all the things that we have fought to get rid of like slavery, women’s right to vote, civil rights and many more. They look at those as systemic and in the DNA of America. When in fact it is in the DNA of America to get rid of those issues.
When is it? America Month is celebrated in July in honor of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by the fifty-six men who signed the Declaration of Independence and everyone who fought and established this great country. As an American I do believe that every day, week, month and year is America Day, America Week, America Month and America Year. By all means, celebrate consistently with having your American flag flying proudly outside and a framed American flag inside that flew over the United States Capitol. On top of that have American themed aspects throughout your home, whether it be books about America, bald eagles or paintings of beautiful landscapes in America. Celebrate America all year round but during America Month make sure the world knows!
How do you celebrate it? First off that is your choice. You have the freedom to choose how you want to celebrate it. The main thing is to make sure you keep Independence Day special. Do not make it like any other day during the month. One of the best examples is treating it like the month of December. Where you have decorations up, spending time with those close to you yet keeping Christmas unique and special. You can travel across America experiencing the different wonders and people we have across our great country! Visit the Amish before seeing rockets launched into space and landing on a pad. Enjoy the fact that both of these can exist and thrive in our country!
Now we need to address a few things that America Month is not. It is not about celebrating us having the largest economy. It’s not about having the most powerful military either. Or having the most powerful government in the world. Two of the three are byproducts of what makes America great. One of those is not a good thing and the other I would say is questionable whether it is good or bad. America Month is about celebrating the people that make up this amazing country, the beautiful land and the fact that our ideal is a limited government that represents the people. We have gotten very far from the limited government representing the people and going forward we will dig into what that means and how we can get back to it.
John F Kennedy’s quote “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country” is close to what America Month represents. America Month is “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask not what you can do for your country—ask what you can do for your fellow American.” It is Americans that makes this country great. If we all get back to thinking what we can do for our fellow Americans versus serving the government or the government serving us we will go well beyond our greatest dreams. When thinking what we can do our fellow Americans remember it is not about striving for a utopia because one man’s utopia is another man’s nightmare.
America Month is about celebrating each American on their own path. It is about Americans striving for a better future for all realizing each ideal is different. It is about each American stepping up when someone is in need. It is about the right to fail. The right to succeed. It is knowing your fellow American will be there for you. It is about making America better for all. It is E Pluribus Unum. It is in God we trust. It is about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
