The Original America Month: Part 1: A Brief history of the founding of the United States

We begin with a brief history of foundational historical events and why July 1776 is recognized as the Original America Month.

The First Continental Congress occurred from September 5th to October 26th, 1774 in Philadelphia.

The First Continental Congress was prompted by the Coercive Acts, known in America as the Intolerable Acts, which Parliament passed in early 1774 to reassert its dominance over the American colonies following the Boston Tea Party.

… the delegates promptly began drafting and discussing the Continental Association. This would become their most important policy outcome. The Association called for an end to British imports starting in December 1774 and an end to exporting goods to Britain in September 1775.

Six months later the first shots of the Revolutionary War occurred on April 19, 1775. Starting the Revolutionary War at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The British were marching to seize weapons and arrest colonial leaders. The British were overwhelmed and the battles ended in an American victory. This victory started to spark wide support of independence and the Continental Army.
